5 SSD Myth that You Should Not Believe
Table of Contents
Most of us use SSDs in our computers. We are holding some misbeliefs that it is only for performance boosting. We also believe that it is expensive. Most of them are not true. This article is going to debunk some myths regarding SSDs.
SSD is not expensive
I upgraded my computer in 2020. Then, I thought that the SSD was too expensive. For this reason, I didn’t purchase it only for performance boosting. Since I don’t edit graphics, I didn’t need a high-performance pc.
However, nowadays, SSDs are cheaper than they were in 2020. Now, I can purchase a 1 TB SSD for 50-60 US dollars, the same amount I spent to buy a 1 TB HDD. So, SSDs are no longer expensive nowadays.
Short Life Span
When I adopt a new technology, my first concern is its durability. Why would I use it if it does not serve me more than the current technology?
Though the lifespan of an SSD depends on TWB, it survives longer than an HDD. Every manufacturer mentions the TWB of the SSD. It means how many terabytes an SSD can write.
TWB of an SSD depends on its capacity. For example, TWB of a 1 TB SSD might be 600 TB. Do you think that you can write 600 tb within 5 years? I don’t think so. You may have to write 328.8 gb everyday. It is not practical for regular users. As a result, many SSDs last more than a decade. On the other hand, an HDD hardly lasts for 5 years.
Defragging SSD
You have probably heard about defragmentation. Though you should regularly perform on an HDD, you don’t need it for an SSD. Since it uses flash drive technology, you never need to defrag it. So, if you are using an SSD, turn off auto defragmentation from your Windows settings.
SSD Wipe Data for Inactive Status
There is a rumour in the industry and among consumers that if we do not use our computer for some days, in other words, the SSD, it will erase data. It is not true. It could be true in the early days. However, nowadays it is not true.
You can keep your pc off for months and you would not lose any data. So, don’t believe it blindly.
Hibernate Ruins SSD
When we hibernate our computer, it saves our progress to the SSD and turns off the computer. There are some misconceptions that it may shorten the lifespan of our SSD due to the limited writing capability.
The writing capacity is calculated by TWB. The TWB of SSDs is so huge that hibernating cannot mess it up. So, don’t worry about it. You can hibernate your computer without affecting your SSD negatively.
So, there are so many misbelieves around SSDS. Most of them are illogical. It makes many consumers sleepless. Well, you can use your computer with an SSD without worrying much. Most of them are rumours and not true.
